Pumpkin Farm Experience at Farndon Fields 2019

Pumpkin Farm Experience 2019

Well, what a fantastic October we've had down at the farm. We had an exciting few weeks welcoming customers old and new to come and explore all that we grow here at Farndon Fields. We loved talking about all of the delicious veg we grow and helping everyone to pick their pumpkins straight from the field.

The weather tried to spoil our fun during one of the wettest Autumn on record, but in true British spirit we donned our wellies and bobble hats and luckily the sun shone for all but one of our pumpkin picking days.

The experience started in the pumpkin barn where we greeted everyone and gave them a map of the farm. From there they could follow our farm walk and learn about all the different crops we have growing here at Farndon fields. We had signposts along the way to share interesting facts about all of our vegetables. The walk wiggled around the crops and ended up at the main event - the pumpkin patch!

Kevin has been working hard on his pumpkin patch over the last few months and it was a fantastic sight to see. We had a huge variety of pumpkins for people to choose from, from your classic orange pumpkins to a selection of gourds all shapes, sizes and colours. Helen and Kevin were both stationed up in the pumpkin field to help with all of the questions people had about the farm and pumpkin varieties and help people to choose their pumpkins.

We then had our wheelbarrows lined up ready and waiting for people to cart their pumpkins back down to the pumpkin barn. Once in the pumpkin barn, we had a variety of carving and decorating materials for everyone to use. We were amazed by just how creative everyone was and we're kicking ourselves that we didn't take any photos. We had everything from Harry Potter pumpkins to delicately decorated gourds. It's certainly given us inspiration for next year!

We also had free recipe cards for people to take home so they could turn their pumpkins into something delicious! We had a variety of recipes from Halloween pumpkin cake to a coconut pumpkin curry.

And to top it all off we also had a variety of photo opportunities for people to remember their day and we just couldn't resist a photo in our photo stand at the pumpkin barn! We also dusted off our giant deckchair for its second outing so people could relax whilst looking over the field of pumpkins and across all of our crops.

We had an amazing time soaking up the Autumn sun and we've got a few pumpkins left over so looks like we'll be cooking with pumpkin for the next few weeks!
