How to care for your Fresh Christmas Tree

How to care for your Fresh Christmas Tree

After spending the day picking your perfect Christmas tree, you'll want to make sure it stays looking it's best all the way through to the end of December. Knowing how to properly care for your tree can be the difference between having a happy tree or having a tree which looks rather sad on Christmas day! We've put together a few easy tips to look after your fresh tree this year.

Tip 1: Trim and Water your tree

Before you set your tree up in the house, its a good idea to give it a big drink water to avoid it drying out. Cut 25mm off the trunk and securely place it in a bucket of water until you're ready to bring it into the house. Cutting the trunk means it can take in more water, similar to how you would fresh flowers.

2: Give it a shake

When you're ready to bring the tree into the house (whilst still outside) remove the netting and shake the tree to remove any dead needles or insects who may have been using it as a holiday home. Trust us, this will result in a lot less hoovering when you bring it in!

3: Choose a good Christmas Tree stand

Make sure you choose a stand that can hold a good amount of water as Christmas trees need approximately 500ml - 1 litre of water a day depending on the size of the tree.

4: Lay down a Christmas Tree skirt

It may be worth laying down a Christmas tree skirt (or something similar) before bringing the tree into the house. This will help protect flooring from any water that might escape when you water your tree and will also help capture any needles that drop.

5: Keep away from radiators

Locate your tree away from any heat sources such as radiators. Being too close to a radiator will result in your tree drying out and losing its needles faster.

6: Water your tree everyday

Water your tree every day to keep it looking it's best. A dehydrated tree will start to droop, wilt and drop its needles, so it's important to give it a minimum of 500ml of water a day.

We hope our top tips will help you keep your tree looking healthy throughout the festive period.
