Head Chef

About the Role:

We are now looking for an experienced Head Chef to take ownership of the service kitchen in the Farmer’s Kitchen. Our philosophy is to prepare top quality seasonal dishes using home-grown fresh produce and local ingredients that are sold in the Farm Shop. The Farmer’s Kitchen is open 10am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday.

The Head Chef role will be an integral member of the Farmer’s Kitchen and wider Farndon Fields management team and help us deliver the day-to-day as well as make improvements for the future growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, develop a kitchen team of 6-7 chefs to consistently deliver excellent quality food

  • Work closely with the Front of House Manager to deliver excellent service to all customers

  • Live by our brand values of local, authentic, fresh, seasonal, and sustainably grown produce and ingredients

  • Be creative around seasonal dishes and menu changes

  • Work collaboratively with managers across varied departments such as butchery, fresh produce, and production kitchen on sourcing best ingredients

  • Manage key supplier relationships and purchasing for externally sourced ingredients

  • Reporting on ingredients and menu costings

  • Maintaining and updating recipe and compliance documentation incl. allergens and kitchen HACCP

  • Support on future business development concepts such as Farm Events and takeaway food

 

Skills & Experience:

  • At least five continuous years of professional experience as a Head Chef or Kitchen Manager

  • Experience working in a fast-paced kitchen environment

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Leadership, management, and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in developing junior chefs

  • Good communication and reporting skills

  • Menu development and costings

  • Excellent food hygiene record

The working hours for this role will typically be 45-48 hours per week between the hours of 7:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Saturday and 8:30am to 4:15pm Sunday. The role is full time with weekend work required, but no nights and no split shifts.
